Aloo Raita Recipe – Vrat Special

Aloo raita or potato raita recipe for fasts (vrats) with step by step photos and video. It is simple and easy to make with boiled potatoes and very few ingredients.
Today I am going to share aloo raita recipe for vrats especially. You can have this in any fast like Navaratri, Shivratri, Ekadashi etc. This is one of the healthiest and most good recipes to have on any other day also. This is a perfect combination with kuttu ki puri, aloo tamatar ki sabzi, samak ke chawal etc.

I used to have raita with pulao at home. I use a different kinds of raitas like boondi raita, pyaaz raita (onion raita), mix vegetable raitas etc. You can see the recipes of these raitas on my site also. Aloo Raita Recipe (Potato Raita Recipe)
Ingredients
First Method : Plain and Simple Raita
- 2 boiled potatoes roughly mashed with hands
- 1 cup whisked curd
- 2 finely chopped green chilies
- Half teaspoon roasted and crushed cumin seed
- finely chopped coriander leaves
- half teaspoon black pepper powder
- Rock salt (sendha namak) according to your taste
Second Method : With Tadka (Optional)
- 1 teaspoon cooking oil or desi ghee
- 1 teaspoon cumin seed
- 6-7 curry leaves
Instructions
First Method : Plain and Simple Raita
- Put 1 cup whisked curd in a bowl and add 2 boiled mashed potatoes in it.
- Add rock salt (sendha namak) in it and mix it.
- Add black pepper powder.
- Add finely chopped green chillies in it.
- Mix all ingredients and garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.
Second Method : With Tadka (Optional)
- Add 1 teaspoon oil in cooking pan and heat it.
- Add half teaspoon cumin seeds and cook it until its colour change to light brown
- Add 2 finely chopped green chillies in it and cook it until it raw flavour vanishes.
- Add 6-7 curry leaves in it and cook for 1 minute.
- Now turn off the gas and let the tadka cool it.
- Put 1 cup whisked curd in a bowl.
- add 2 boiled mashed potatoes in it.
- Add rock salt (sendha namak) on it.
- Now add tadka on top of it.
- Mix all ingredients and garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.
Notes
- You can increase the quantity of green chilies if you want to increase the spiciness of raita.
- You can add little water in curd with you want thin consistency of curd. Then adjust the salt accordingly.
- Add 1 or 2 teaspoon chaat masala on top of it.
- Add red chilly powder according to your taste.
- Use regular salt on it. Do not use rock salt (sendha namak) on it.
- You can also add little bit of kala namak on it for good taste.
- Add all these in the steps mentioned in first method of making raita.
